Ranking high in Google and Yahoo

The list below includes other factors to influence your ranking.
  • Cross link all your important pages within your site
  • Include a TITLE tag directly after the head tag
  • Try to avoid stop words in your TITLE tag (a, an, and, but, etc.)
  • Include a DESCRIPTION tag directly after the TITLE tag.
  • Include most important key phrase at beginning of the description
  • Place KEY WORDS tag after DESCRIPTION tag
  • Keywords are NOT important for Google
  • Remove all other meta tags (author, date, etc.)
  • Include a Site Map with links to your most important pages
  • Limit links on your web pages to 100 ( could be a Google myth)
  • Use header tags <h1> and include your most important keywords
  • Try to achieve a minimum word count of 300 on each page
  • Name directories after your key phrases
  • Name web pages after your key phrases
  • Name your images after your key phrases
  • Include keyword in the ALT attribute in image tags
  • Include keyword in the TITLE attribute in text link tags
  • DO NOT repeat keyword phrases over and over again
  • DO NOT set up more than 3 directory levels
